Counseling
AYCNY provides individual and family counseling through examining individual life patterns and behaviors as well as family dynamics to resolve conflicts and to build on their strengths and dreams for better future and educational consultation to youth on school related issues, such as school transfer, boarding schools, schools for troubled teens, GED, college applications and more. AYCNY provides resources and referrals to job training and job placement programs. School Mediation is an important part of AYCNY. We facilitate communication between the school and the families acting as a liaison, pursuing the best interest of each student and communicate parental issues to the school. Within 72 hours of the first registration of each person, a mentor makes follow up-call to explain of the Youth Development and Mentorship Program (YDMP) and to provide a brief individual counseling. Mentors of the YDMP have weekly meetings at the AYCNY in order to evaluate the initial contact for each case. Mentors also provide information according to individual needs. Each mentor always checks weekly participation attendance; she/he supervises student activities in safety; she/he participates in student leadership of each school; she/he provides individual counseling and runs educational trainings at each site weekly; and each mentor is responsible for safety of students from potential dangers in all activities; and she/he builds up trusting and supportive relationships with participants. Confidentiality is required.
We, the AYCNY, have Immigrant Initiative Program to help immigrants to adjust to the American culture and system through counseling, workshop, and social services. We provide translation services to our clients as well as schools, hospitals, HRA, and other agencies through conference calls and document translations.
