Youth Group Activities
1)Self-Affirmation and Self-Empowerment Program
It is very important for at-risk youth let go of their past resentment, anger and shame in a safe environment with the help of a support group. Through sharing their stories, youth are empowered to identify and overcome the self-destructive behavioral patterns of substance abuse, any kind of detrimental behaviors, attitude, and relationships. Self-empowerment and Self-affirmation reading materials and writings are required.
2) Tutoring
The AYCNY provides with home-works, exams and study under the supervision of mentors. Students are encouraged to stay at school and explore new skills.
3) Sports and Recreation Activities
Sports activities include a basketball team and a music band. Youth meets weekly for their favorite activities. Youth music band meets weekly for practice and performs at several events throughout the year. Anyone who loves music can join. Sports activities meet once a week and are opened to the public.
4) Art and Culture Workshop
We teach youth about different art forms across cultures and tools for making art, and provide opportunities to release their stress and resentment in a constructive way and to explore creativity and new skills for new potentials. Anger and time management reading materials and writings are required.
5) Street Outreach Program
Street outreach staff is dedicated to meet as-risk youth hanging out on street, P.C. rooms and other hang-out places to address many issues faced by teens today. Through counseling and providing social services, youth find positive self-image and learn better decision making skills.
6) Youth Leadership Development
Youth Leadership program began in 1997. The primary purpose is to create safe environment for at-risk youth who are growing up in a high risk environment of violence and substance abuse and to promote internalized values and good social skills through various activities, which we hope to positively influence the community.
